Canadian offshore racer Derek Hatfield has announced Spirit of Canada’s’ next single-handed challenge around the world will be the VELUX 5 OCEANS 2010-11. Considered The Ultimate Solo Challenge since the race was first organised in 1982, the eighth edition of this classic event will start in La Rochelle (France) on October 17th 2010. A fleet of Open 60s will take on five gruelling ocean sprints as the solo sailors circumnavigate the planet around the three great Capes. Read the story

The deadline for Canadian boaters to have their Pleasure Craft Operator Card ("Boat Licence") has come and gone - all operators of recreational power vessels of any size, operated on any body of water in Canada, must be able to show proof of competency to operate the vessel. July 2009: The Northern Association of Boating Administrators and New York Sea Grant have teamed up with New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation to produce a current brochure with information on cross-border recreational travel for the Great Lakes boater.
