Yanmar Engines Will Run on Biodiesel*
The eco-friendly diesel alternative has been approved for use across Yanmar's recreational marine line.
Compared to standard diesel, B5 Biodiesel can help reduce greenhouse gases and particulate matter, also known as soot. The fuel is 95 percent standard diesel with a maximum of 5 percent biodiesel.

Launer Urges Caution on Biodiesel
In the June BWI Journal, Supporting Member News, there is a short piece stating that Yanmar has ap-proved B-5 bio-diesel for its engines. There should be a large caveat included in this.
Yanmar has only approved B-5 in certain models of their engines, and only when these engines have been modified for that type of fuel.
In addition, Yanmar states that biodiesel blends can adversely affect certain metal, rubber, and plas-tic components of the fuel supply and return sys-tems. Biodiesel-compatible components must be installed so that this deterioration and damage does not occur.
Unless all these conditions are met, the custom-ers will lose their engine warranty.
I think that this is an important FYI for the members.
