Abstract Watercolours
Click on any image to start the slideshowThis is where I started when I first tried watercolour painting, under the direction of a delightful and caring teacher, Ruth Hayes [website].Most of these abstracts involve a wet-into-wet approach and may also incorporate the use of collage, oil crayons, application of plastic wrap or waxed paper for effect. It's all rather like being back in primary school and is only just a little removed from finger painting. It is no accident that Ruth is an Art Therapist and we fortunate students treated our weekly sessions with her as excellent therapy.
Jeanne Carbonnetti, mentioned on my Floral
page, also uses similar methods.
I continue to return to this form of painting. I find it interesting
to work with new surfaces such as Terraskin (made from stone!) and
Yupo, a plasticized surface. Both of these present entirely new
challenges.
