The artist

I paint primarily in transparent watercolour.

My main work leans to abstract/expressionism but I do not restrict my efforts solely to this approach, as I experiment with various styles, including pen and wash drawings, realistic landscapes and still life.

Works in wood

I no longer work in wood as  I  prefer to concentrate on painting. I hope to return to a limited output of wooden creations in the future, especially since my daughter gave me her wood-turning lathe!

Floral Watercolours

Click on any image to start the slideshowI confess to knowing little about flowers, but as a painter, I paint shapes not objects. Floral painting appeals on an impressionistic level and that is how I approach the subject.

I have not taken much in the way of tuition in floral painting, but I have studied, via books and the Web, the work of several artists, among them Charles Reid and especially the wonderful Jeanne Carbonetti. I can recommend Jeanne's book, The Tao of Watercolor [Watson-Guptill Publications]
