The paintings

I paint primarily in transparent watercolour.

My work leans to loose abstract/expressionism but I do not restrict my efforts solely to this approach, as I experiment with various styles, including pen and wash drawings, realistic landscapes and still life.

All are for sale.

Biography..

Works in wood

I no longer work in wood as  I  prefer to concentrate on painting. I hope to return to a limited output of wooden creations in the future, especially since my daughter gave me her wood-turning lathe!

None of the carvings are currently for sale.

3 pears mounted on wood panels
Paintings mounted on wood panels
A new method of mounting and protecting watercolour paintings

  • lightweight
  • frameless
  • less expensive
  • durable

These watercolours were painted on 140 lb medium surface watercolour paper in the normal way. While these are tiny (3 x 4 inches), any size of watercolour painting can be mounted in this manner.

The paintings are mounted onto the wooden support boards using a gel medium. Then the paintings are protected with two coats of Archival Varnish spray.

Finally, four coats of Polymer Varnish with Ultra Violet filters and Light Stabilizers are brushed on.

The paintings are thus protected from moisture, dirt, sunlight and light scratching, and may be hung unframed or framed in the same manner as an oil painting.

For archival considerations, the varnish coat can be safely removed and reapplied if required after many years of enjoyment. The paintings are safe for many years to come.

The wood panels vary from 3/4-inch to 2-1/2-inch in depth, depending on size.
