Paintings mounted on wood panels
A new method of mounting and protecting watercolour paintings
- lightweight
- frameless
- less expensive
- durable
These watercolours were painted on 140 lb medium surface
watercolour paper in the normal way. While these are tiny (3 x 4
inches), any size of watercolour painting can be mounted in this
manner.
The paintings are mounted onto the wooden support boards using a gel
medium. Then the paintings are protected with two coats of Archival
Varnish spray.
Finally, four coats of Polymer Varnish with Ultra Violet filters and
Light Stabilizers are brushed on.
The paintings are thus protected from moisture, dirt, sunlight and
light scratching, and may be hung unframed or framed in the same
manner as an oil painting.
For archival considerations, the varnish coat can be safely removed
and reapplied if required after many years of enjoyment. The
paintings are safe for many years to come.
The wood panels vary from 3/4-inch to 2-1/2-inch in depth, depending
on size.
