Lots of News from Distant Shores in the Caribbean
Hello Everyone,   Greetings from St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands where Paul and I have just arrived after crossing the Anegada Passage from St. Bart's after a great winter of cruising in the less-visited islands of the Caribbean – Saba, Montserrat, The Saintes, and St. Barthelemy (St. Bart's). We are now reprovisioning the boat for a month of cruising in the Bahamas, one of our favourite sailing destinations. We'll be there for a month visiting some of the out islands we missed on previous trips. Now with our shoal-draft Southerly 42 there aren't many places we can't go in the shallow seas surrounding the jewel-like islands of the Bahamas!

Another New Boat! Our most exciting news it that Paul and I are getting another new boat! Yes, this is the official announcement. After sailing nearly 14,000 nm aboard our Southerly 42, Distant Shores, we are totally hooked on the Southerly yacht concept of variable draft freedom plus cruising comfort and performance. So when Southerly announced its latest model, the Custom 48, Paul flew to England to check it out. You can read his comments on the front page of the Distant Shores website and follow the progress on the new boat's construction ,which will begin in June, in Paul's New Boat Blog. http://www.distantshores.ca/boatblog/boatblog.html

See Our New Southerly 48 at the London International Boat Show this January The new “Distant Shores”, a Southerly Custom 48, is scheduled for delivery in January 2010 and will be on display at the London International Boat Show at Excel in London, England. We'll be at the show to answer questions and will also be conducting seminars on long-distance cruising. We hope you'll drop by to say hello if you're planning to attend this wonderful boat show! We'll post the dates and times on the Seminars & Events page of our website when confirmed. The London Boat Show runs January 8-17, 2010. In the spring we'll begin a cruise of the Baltic for Season 7 of Distant Shores.

Share the Sail We've had a great couple of winters conducting our Share the Sail weeks but with the transition to the new boat and our filming schedule we won't be running Share the Sail next year. Thanks to all that participated! It was great fun and we enjoyed having you aboard! We wish you well with your future plans for cruising and look forward to hearing about your adventures.   Wishing all of you a great summer and to our friends “down under” a great winter.
