Caribbean |
The Caribbean is a cruiser's Mecca. The jewel-like strand of tropical islands that stretch across this sea offer diverse cultures, geography and great sailing! |
 |
We find the northeasterly trade winds pretty much guarantee a constant breeze, yet the islands block the swell from the open Atlantic providing smooth seas on the leeward side. Island-hopping is pure pleasure here! There are dangers to consider too, however. It is an area of intense weather with hurricanes blowing through during summer and fall, (best not to be here at that time), there are passionate political feelings and cultural differences that need to be respected, and navigational challenges that should be
heeded |
On a return passage from Brazil, we sailed northward through the islands of the Caribbean and will share with you strategies, experiences and useful resources we found for great Caribbean cruising. Destinations will include Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Maritinique and
Guadalope, Dominica, Antigua, St. Maarten, the Virgin Islands and the Dominican Republic. |
| In the meantime, you might want to check out a couple of our Exploring Under Sail videos where we take you to Antigua and aboard some hot yachts for Sailing Week, and to St. Maarten to participate in the Heineken Regatta and other events.
