| Hi Everyone! Hope you're enjoying the New Millennium. We're off to a flying start with lots of new projects including the release of our latest adventure video: Transatlantic Crossing: Norfolk VA to Portugal via Bermuda and the Azores A Guide to Offshore Passagemaking with Paul and Sheryl Shard $29.95 This 55-minute video follows our most recent transatlantic passage aboard "Two-Step" and includes beautiful footage of our time at sea as well as our visits to the magical mid-Atlantic islands of Bermuda and the Azores. The voyage is not without moments of heart-pounding fear, however. In the Bermuda Triangle we dodge a waterspout (an at-sea tornado that sucks up water and boats) and, yes, Paul catches the thing on film before we hastily alter course! The storms we encounter between Bermuda and the Azores are minor this time, but we do include shots we took during the 3-day gale we suffered on our first transatlantic passage in 1990. The coast guard reported 25-foot seas and that's what we got - waves the size of 2-storey houses! (We're not letting our mothers watch this video.) As with most of our cruises, the wildlife we encounter is a real highlight. On this trip we dive with pilot whales, dolphins and - strangely - birds. When dolphins corral fish for feeding, they drive the school close to the surface. Ocean birds called shearwaters have learned this and join in the feeding frenzy, diving into the mayhem and "swimming" underwater with their wings to grab a share of the catch. Paul managed to capture this underwater phenomenon on video and received a few minor knocks on the head from diving birds for his trouble. For those of you planning some offshore cruising yourself, TRANSATLANTIC CROSSING includes tips on setting up your boat for passage making, provisioning for a voyage, upgrading navigational skills, selecting charts and cruise guides, weather strategies, self-steering gear, dealing with seasickness and other topics offshore sailors are fascinated by. We even have some pretty dramatic footage of a flare demonstration we held at the beach at Lagoon City this fall - get ready for smoke bombs, rockets and parachutes! Whether you're a sailor or not, this video is fun for everyone. Looking forward to hearing from you! All the best, Sheryl and Paul, Shard Multimedia PO Box 285, Brechin, Ontario, Canada, L0K 1B0 Paul &
