Join us aboard our Classic 37 Two-Step
as we journey from the Great Lakes to Florida. We'll take you
through the stages of lake crossing, entering the New York State Canal
System, un-stepping and shipping the mast on deck, and negotiating the
canal locks.
We'll point out the many interesting sights along the Hudson River and
tell you about the anchorages to be found there and in New York City.
Then comes the journey down the coast to the Chesapeake and North
Carolina, followed by the transit of the ICW to Florida.

section:
Toronto to New York
In this section we describe the inland route from Lake Ontario to New York, through the Erie Canal and the Hudson River. Topics include tips on stepping your mast for transit through the canal, how to negotiate locks, and recommended marinas and anchorages.
The New Jersey Coast (Coming Soon)
From New York Harbor we sail down the New Jersey Coast to Cape May, the first offshore leg on the voyage from Toronto. We discuss preparation, weather strategies, and safe harbors along the way.
Delaware and Chesapeake Bays (Coming Soon)
From Cape May we transit the Cape May Canal and travel up the notorious Delaware Bay, through the Chesapeake-Delaware Canal and into the Chesapeake Bay. The Chesapeake is a cruiser's paradise and we share our favorite destinations, talk about tides and shallow water navigation.
Norfolk VA to Beaufort NC (Coming Soon)
At Norfolk, VA, at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay we enter the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) and discuss two routes - the Virginia Cut and the Dismal Swamp Canal. We also talk about strategies for comfortable sailing across the Arbemarle and Pamlico Sounds. Beaufort, NC, is a good jump-off point for sailing offshore to the Caribbean or continuing down the ICW to Florida.
ICW to Florida (Coming Soon)
In this section we take you down the ICW through North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, a beautiful part of the voyage but there are many bridges to content with. We discuss bridge openings and how to plan for restricted bridge schedules as well as bridge etiquette. We also talk about options for sailing "outside". |
