The Hudson River
Once in the Hudson River we head south for Catskill where we have our mast put up again at Hop-o-nose Marina. (518-943-4640 ) Again, they have a highly competent and experienced crew and feel it's worth the $100 or so we spend.

Another option is a do-it-yourself crane provided by the yacht club at Castleton on Hudson which you can use for about $25, but there is no crew and a lot of wakes. Hop-o-nose Marina is just off the Hudson in a pretty setting on a quiet creek so we feel better raising the mast there. Again, it's part of our "Reduce the Potential for Stress and Keep it Fun" policy.

The trip south down the Hudson River to New York Harbour is also a surprisingly lovely voyage. It is often compared to the Rhine Valley.

There are many beautiful homes and some whimsical lighthouses along the way.

One of our favorite places to anchor
is at Bannerman's Castle.

.

We love the dramatic scenery on this part of the trip to New York City.

After the peacefulness of the Erie Canal and Hudson River is a bit of a shock to suddenly arrive in the busy harbor at New York.

But it's exciting too! There are ships from all over the world and to sail past the famous Statue of Liberty and head for the open sea is quite a thrill.
