Important summer maintenance
-
"Preventive maintenance will help
you avoid the headaches and keep your crew or fishing buddies comfortable
and safe," says Seaworthy Editor Bob Adriance. "So going over the boat's
systems in the spring is very important. But now after a couple months of
use, it's time to look at things again. A midsummer check-up will ensure you
make it back to home port without a problem."

the coasts as well as fresh water boaters [ Marine Sewage Regulations ]

Animated Knots
We had a call from Alan Grogono, who is the wizard behind the wonderful website:
Grog's Animated Knots - and were
pleasantly surprised to learn that many of the referrals to his site come via
the Searoom link page. Alan has just updated his site (which contains knots of
interest to boaters, climbers and fishers). It's a keeper for anyone in the
boating fraternity. Recommended!

High-tech hunt for missing scientist
New York, NY, February 3, 2007

Update: February 14, 2007-
there is still no word on the whereabouts of this missing sailor or his C&C
40 sailboat. The teams helping in the search have examined more than 560,000 images from 3 satellites, covering nearly 3,500 square miles of ocean! They no longer need help in that direction, but suggestions for how you can help are posted
here
The
New York Times reported today that a high-tech, computer-based search was
underway for Dr. James Gray, a renowned computer scientist whose boat
Tenascious was reported missing last Sunday evening. Dr. Gray had departed
on a solo voyage to the Farralon Islands off San Francisco to scatter his
mother's ashes. While the US Coast Guard called off its search, friends and
colleagues of Dr. Gray jumped in to use the tools at their command to aid in
the search.
Google, Amazon, Microsoft, NASA and various universities are bringing their
expertise to bear on the search, including reprogramming satellites to bring
images of the potential wreck area.
